CowParade Madrid 2009

Herds of fibreglass cows invade Madrid in January as part of CowParade, a colourful street art display. Each bovine statue is decorated by a different designer, then strategically placed somewhere in the Salamanca, Retiro or Central districts of the capital.
The concept of CowParade - similar to Liverpool's Super Lamb Bananas - is to bring art into everyone's day-to-day life, rather than confining it to galleries.
The first ever CowParade took place in Zürich ten years ago and the painted cows have since been spotted in 50 cities, including Istanbul, Rio de Janeiro, Copenhagen, Las Vegas, Boston and Monaco.

Every CowParade is different, each designed to capture the essence of the host city. Past exhibitions have seen cows covered in computer keys, glittery pink paint or transformed into Harry Potter. CowParade Madrid sees creations by invited artists as well as winners of the capital's "Paint a Cow!" competition.
