The 10th edition of the Festival Escena
Contemporánea that will take place between 19th January and 15th
February 2010 in Madrid will have more than 80 shows by 23 experimental
theatre, street theatre, dance, performance and sound art companies
from all over the world.
This festival is arranged by the Asociación
Cultural Escena Contemporánea formed by Teatro Pradillo, Sala Cuarta
Pared, ARTEMAD and the Coordinadora Madrileña de Salas, and it is
promoted by the Consejería de Cultura y Deporte y Portavocía del
Gobierno and the subvention of the Ministerio de Cultura through INAEM.
The
program of Escena Contemporánea focuses on daring scenic proposals,
non-conventional theatre, new playwrights and multidisciplinary pieces
in order to be a reflection of contemporary creations, both national an
international. By doing this, Escena Contemporánea won the Prize Max de
Nuevas Tendencias and the prize for the best theatre program in Spain
in the Feria Internacional de Teatro y Danza in Huesca in 2009.
The
glance towards the other. Every piece in this 10th edition of Escena
Contemporánea starts from alteration, from the possibility to change
our own perspective for that of another one, considering another points
of view, interests or ideologies. Each show has its unique voice and it
will be a challenge for the spectators, inviting them to take part of
an experience that can be individual or collective. This proposal
implies that the public becomes absorbed by a program that mixes
relations between acquaintances and strangers, fathers and sons, young
people and adults, power and individuals. The program, no matter which
language each piece uses, will also promote intercultural meetings
between various races and nationalities, as well as offering an
interesting perspective of gender through pieces created and performed
by women such as Shantala, Sònia Gómez, Paloma Calle, Louisa Merino,
Sara Serrano or Antonia Baehr.
