In the town of Aranjuez, 47 kilometres from Madrid, in the southern region of the Autonomous Community with the same name.
Baroque in style, this Palace was built in various stages, as can be seen on its main façade, which is composed of different parts that were built over a period of two centuries. It consists of over 300 buildings, in which Colmenar stone and shiny red brick are alternated.
Its instigators
Aranjuez was designated a Royal Site by the Catholic Monarchs, who made it a retreat. Although Carlos V spent extended periods there, it was Phillip II that made Aranjuez a permanent place of residence for the Royal Family, issuing various by-laws in which it was stated that only the servants of the King that were destined there could live at the Royal Site. He also ordered that a new, larger palace be built, which was subsequently destroyed during the reign of Ferdinand VI.

The Prado copy of the painting reveals some secrets of the original work
The replica of the Mona Lisa will be exhibited in Room 49 of the Prado Museum until 13 March. The work, painted by an unknown artist, was produced in Leonardo da Vinci's studio at the same time as the original Mona Lisa.
The painting has alwasy belonged to the Madrid museum, though it went unnoticed for many years. First, experts said it was a Flemish copy from the 17th century. Later, that it was, in fact, an Italian copy. Finally, and following a long research process and restoration work carried out last autumn, we now know something more: the Prado's Mona Lisa (La Gioconda del Prado) was produced at the same time as the Leonardo da Vinci original hanging in the Louvre, and can reveal some of the secrets of the legendary Renaissance painter.

The Museo del Prado exhibits the painter of light's finest works
46 years ago, the Museo del Prado commemorated the birth of Joaquín Sorolla with a memorable retrospective of his works. Today, the art gallery, who is seeking to pay tribute to the greatest Spanish masters of the 19th century, has organised another major exhibition on the Valentian artist.
